Level 5 Diploma Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector

Who is this qualification for?
This qualification is intended for Teachers who have a higher level of responsibility for teaching, in regards to the design, delivery and management of a curriculum within their specialist area, and who wish to  achieve Full Teacher status i.e. Qualified Teacher in the Lifelong Learning Sector (QTLS) status.

Holders of QTLS status are recognised as having parity with QTS status teachers and are therefore able to teach within Primary and Secondary Education as well as Further Education following a reform, which came into effect in 2012. This means that those wishing to teach in this area no longer need to have gained a CertEd or PGCE or other higher equivalent to teach.

How long does DTLLS take to achieve?
The course is delivered over approximately 12 to 15 months.  The course is classified as full-time (for funding purposes), however, you will only attend approximately four hours per week, mainly during term-time.  The balance of your “full-time” is made up from a number of components: your normal work-time where you can evidence your teaching practice and professional competence and research and self study, e.g. doing assignments, constructing a portfolio of evidence, etc
